Joel S. Bentz, MD

Associate Professor of Pathology

Joel Bentz, MD, MS, is associate professor in the Department of Pathology and medical director of the ARUP Cytopathology Laboratory at the University of Utah. Bentz’s research interests include environmental and genetic factors in familial pancreatic cancers and surveillance strategies for the disease, biomarkers for pancreatic cancer, and development of self-administered Pap testing.

Bentz received his MS in anatomy and cell biology from the University of Iowa, and his MD from the University of North Dakota. Afterward, he completed his residency in anatomic and applied pathology at the University of Utah and a fellowship in cytopathology at the University of Pennsylvania. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology with added qualification in cytopathology.
