Wade Samowitz, MD, is a professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and medical director of microsatellite instability testing at ARUP Laboratories. Samowitz is also a physician and investigator in the Department of Pathology and a member of the Gastrointestinal Cancers Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

As an anatomic pathologist, Samowitz's specialties are in gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology; his research interests include the genetics and molecular epidemiology of colorectal cancer. In addition to authoring numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and abstracts, Samowitz has reviewed manuscripts for several journals, including Cancer Research, Gastroenterology, American Journal of Pathology, Modern Pathology, International Journal of Cancer and Pediatric Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, and The Lancet.

Samowitz earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and his doctoral degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular pathology with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, a fellowship in gastrointestinal pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and his residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. Before joining the University of Utah in 1987, Samowitz was a senior clinical fellow in gastrointestinal pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
