Eric Huang, MD, PhD, an associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, conducts research at the Clinical Neurosciences Center. He is also an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Oncological Sciences and a member of the Nuclear Control of Cell Growth and Differentiation Program.

The Huang Lab studies mechanisms of tumor progression by the microenvironment. The tumor microenvironment is characterized by low oxygen tension (hypoxia), acidic pH, and nutrient deprivation. His research focuses on the molecular basis of genetic alterations driven by tumor hypoxia. His interests include molecular mechanisms of hypoxic-induced tumor progression, cancer biology, brain tumors, and molecular targets.

Huang received his MD degree from Shanghai First Medical College, Shanghai and a PhD from Rutgers University, New Jersey. He performed postdoctoral training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Huang was a principal investigator at National Cancer Institute, Bethesda before joining University of Utah in December 2005.
