Researcher with Rubber Gloves Welcome to the Graduate Studies Homepage of Huntsman Cancer Institute. A generous donation of $151 million from the Jon M. and Karen H. Huntsman family has provided the foundation for an innovative cancer center committed to understanding cancer at the molecular and genetic level, and to translating that knowledge into cancer prevention and treatment strategies. Here, an exceptional group of research faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and physicians form an interactive scientific community ideal for graduate training in cancer biology. Members of the institute teach cancer-focused classes in their diverse areas of expertise, and the institute sponsors a cancer-focused seminar series featuring prominent scientists from the U.S. and abroad. State of the art laboratories and extensive core facilities provide students and other researchers with valuable assistance in meeting their research goals. The institute is now located in the new Huntsman Cancer Institute Building which opened in September of 1999. The institute houses research laboratories, clinical care facilities, and cancer information and counseling services.

Huntsman Cancer Institute is fully integrated into the larger scientific community of the University of Utah, and the institute greatly benefits from the University's broad biomedical research strengths. To provide students with the largest number of laboratory choices, students are offered admission in one of two interdisciplinary programs, the Molecular Biology Program and the Biological Chemistry Program. Each program emphasizes a slightly different course curriculum, however both programs offer students the opportunity to choose a laboratory affiliated with Huntsman Cancer Institute. Application to these programs is free, and on-line application materials are available through the Molecular Biology Program or Biological Chemistry Program web sites. These web sites also provide information about courses, journal clubs, seminar series, and financial support. You can also visit Why Utah? A Guide for Future Students for more information on becoming a graduate student at the University of Utah.

To find out more about the faculty and cancer-related research interests, search the listed faculty under broad research 'disciplines', and subsequent links to informative biographies. For further information contact the program offices.
